saturday 14th July: Accomplishing the agreement of Guelaguetza celebration, the people of Oaxaca and the teacher's Union began on July 14th with a gathering in Oaxaca's zocalo. The next day, (sunday) they performed La Calenda, whit at least 20 thousand people. Before, on July 13th, there was a succesful march which was convocated by Oaxaca's Suburbs Popular Assambly (Asamblea Popular de Colonias de Oaxaca). During all these events it was shouted :¡Everybody to the Fortín's hill (where the official-government Guelaguetza takes place) on monday 16th!
since July 15th: the highway to the Fortín'hill was blocked by police searching the cars that had more than 3 people.
July 16th since 8hrs, there was a lot of people at the zocalo and they didn't stop comming. At 10:30hrs, the march began to Fortín's hill. One hour later they arrived shouting out loud ¡URO, culero, tu caerás primero! (URO asshol, you'll fall first)
At 11:35 there was the first struggle, rocks and sticks against tear gas and police shields.
At 11:45 the police blocked the university students, but part of them were able to get into the auditorium to the official Guelaguetza, we fear for their health. Wounded are reported all ready. It's 12hrs. And the struggle continues. The captured are brutally beatted up.
At 12:30 and until 14hrs the struggle continues now whit the difference that the police is reforced with tear gas and federal police (PFP) and on the other side, the people resisting were diminishing, because the teacher's leaders Union (of section XXII) had began the popular Guelaguetza at the Dance Square where the concentration of people was larger.
5 buses were burned. the people comming to reforce the resistance was beated up and forced to retry, the APPO's leader Florentino López declared that the plan was to go on a march to the Guelaguetza auditorium, and then go to the Dance Square where the popular guelaguetza was meant to take place. This was at 13:15hrs when at last the news of struggle was trasmited on hide, the houses around there were atacked by the police. The police got into a hotel Fortín Plaza, looking, getting and beatting up people that were trying to protect them selves inside the building, the police burned up part of the hotel.
