NETCU to hassle Climate Change Protesters

Climate Shake | 14.07.2007 15:16 | Climate Camp 2007 | Animal Liberation | Climate Chaos | Social Struggles

NETCU to shift focus onto Climate Change and will use same underhand and possibly illegal tactics they have used against animal rights

NETCU are a police organization set up to do big businesses bidding, they used to be entirely focussed on animal rights campaigners, recently they have turned their attention to climate change protesters. NETCU are keen to get more staff and so are targetting climate change activists to justify staff increase so we can now expect the same treatment from NETCU that they have used over the years against animal rights: police raiding activists homes on flimsy grounds, fake charges brought against activists and the police giving activists details to private companies who then hire thugs to beat them up and lawyers to take away their human rights and even their homes!

NETCU are paid for by the taxpayers, they should be publicly accountable so here’s their contact details. Ask them why they dont go after real extremists such as the far right.

evidence?

18.07.2007 17:50

I've been following NETCU for ages and their principle focus is animal rights with a smattering of other causes to demonstrate that they're about all 'extremism' as opposed to being an industry facing government front for protecting pharmaceuticals and animal testers from increasingly successful animal rights campaigns. As yet, NETCU have not demonstrated any significant presence outside of anti-vivisection campaigns.

However, the original poster is alleging otherwise, with specific claims about there being a widening of targets in order to justify expansion, etc. Now that is a new and interesting claim, but unsubstantiated by the original article - so, I am in agreement with the person who asked the question, where's the evidence to support this?

By the way, NETCU is Home Office funded through a private organisation (Association of Chief Police Officers) and is not a government agency, funnily enough...

Many Thanks for the Tip

As someone who has been the subject of NETCU's attentions (only marginally but they have a picture of me and my mates on their website) I would just like to thank you for this information. I shall almost certainly be getting in touch. Ta!

Observation

15.07.2007 12:01

The success NETCU had against the ALF was almost 100% as a result of the massive infiltration of the organisation they carried out during 2005 and 2006. If we want to avoid that for Climate Camp and associated activities we must, must, must be vigilant on terms of who we are involved with and who let have access to the organisation.

Known police and MI5 infiltrators have already been identitified and informers discussed. Trust only those known to you, be warry of new faces asking questions. Remember these people use children as a cover (the young mother very concerned about the environment ???)

Indymedia is a public forum, never forget who reads it.

Why not the far right?

16.07.2007 08:58

>>>Ask them why they dont go after real extremists such as the far right.

One cynical and over-simplistic (though perhaps with more than a little truth in it) explanation could go something like this:

Animal rights / climate change campaigners target large, economically important organisations like airlines, Huntingdon labs, universities, car firms, government policies etc.

Far right targets mostly the weakest groups in society like refugees, travellers, undocumented immigrants etc, i.e. those without the resources to demand protection :0(

what's the basis of this claim?

17.07.2007 07:46

not saying it's not true, just asking what evidence this is based on?

a simple question

Which Claim?

17.07.2007 22:40

Which claim are you referring to when seeking evidence? If you mean you would like some evidence the NETCU has routinely targetted groups and individuals who are avowedly non violent and implied that they are linked to extremist and terrorist groups, take a look at their website.

NETCU already doing this (?)

19.07.2007 11:40

At least one indymedia article mentioned that NETCU were present at the Climate Camp at Drax and this article  http://www.ukwatch.net/article/putting_on_the_writs alleges NETCU had a hand in passing info to EDOs lawyer, so they may also be after the anti-war movement.

I'll definitely be (politely) contacting NETCU. Up until now all I could find was a PO Box number for them, why are they trying to hide?

Coming true

27.07.2007 16:41

I didn't believe this when I first read it. But the recent atempt by BAA to put an injunction on us has made me think that this is true after all. Looking at the site posted above and at NETCU's homepage it looks like this is just the sort of thing NETCU get up to.
