Scotland United Against Terrorism

Osama Saeed | 12.07.2007 10:13 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Terror War

It's been an incredible week. The despondency of the attack on Glasgow airport a week ago was turned on it's head in Glasgow today at the extraordinary Scotland United Against Terrorism rally.

Scotland United Against Terrorism
Scotland United Against Terrorism

It was called by a few of us younger folk in the Muslim community and quickly backed by the city's mosques and Islamic organisations. We had hoped for a good response from the rest of Scotland in terms of standing with us.

In fact, we were really touched by how the country responded to us doing this. I was on Newsnight Scotland on Monday when I first announced it. Straight away my phone was going and the emails were coming in from people saying they were really glad we were doing it and that they were coming.

The platform was broad, ranging from Strathclyde Police to the Stop the War Coalition. Civic Scotland was well represented, and then calls started coming in from around the globe. This was quite possibly the first time Muslims had organised anything like this anywhere in the world.

The sun came out this afternoon for the 2000 or so people that came along for something I was really proud to be a part of.

Condemn the much greater terrorism of the West

12.07.2007 10:40

Yes, the pipsqueak terrorism of organisations who recently launched 3 failed attacks on London and Glasgow must be condemned. The much greater terrorism of Bush, Blair and Brown must be condemned even more. The first gulf war - a series of massacres rather than a war - involved the dropping of 88,500 tons of bombs on a largely defenceless people. Imagine - 88,500 tons - the equivalent of 7 Hiroshimas. The savage 13 year sanctions regime killed over a million people according to UNICEF and caused the resignations of humanitarian food co-ordinators Denis Halliday and Hans von Sponeck. The second attack on Iraq - an unprovoked and totally illegal war involved the dropping of 30,000 bombs and missiles and over a thousand tons of depleted uranium on a country that was already devastated.
Question begs, who are the terrorists?

Here are photos of some of the Iraqi victims of our terrorism:

What about the Trident Ploughshares pledger

...who demanded instant retribution for "cretinous jihadis" here ? Yes, I know that post was hidden but still, hardly becoming of TP is it ? Especailly when they were warned about him and failed to investigate.
Guess what, I have more secrets to spill and no reason not to.

A broad platform - from the police to Stop The War? Sharing a platform with the police? Words just fail me, meaning this is probably my least coherent indymedia post ever. But am I the only person who thinks this is absurd.?
