Comix Activism : A Unique New Form Of Lobbying For Whatever Your Campaign

'Read by / Best Before End Aug 07' takes its cue from those mass pre-printed lobbying cards that often show up. I thought, why not do a bunch of them in a booklet introduced by a page/page and a half each in comic book form ?

Initially this is planned as several 28 page black and white comic with eight strips. Comics will be printed on card, cost between £1 each and free.

Visualised as several different comic books, 28 pages of 8 or 9 comic strips devoted entirely to lobbying and activism.. Each cartoonist will be allocated :
- 1 & ½ page of comic strip outlining why someone should take this action
- Double-sided ½ page of postcard

The postcard section is designed at the discretion of the artist. A sample letter pre-written, blank space for viewer interface or a mixture of the two. In design, serrated edges or a simple cut-along-line will be, so as to encourage the reader to make use of the resources/cut up the book.

Or to put it simply,

1. pick an area you're interested in, and some actions.

2. draw one and a half pages of comix putting the point across.

3. Add a layout for a double sided postcard whatever you choose : illustrated, blank, filled-for-signature, partially written, blank

4. send me stuff at the address above.

I'm looking for help from activists, people interested in environmental justice, people who link. The project may require a grant or two, and a team of editors and co-ordinators. I have been self-publishing underground comix for the last ten years and my heart and will is very much in this. I'm not just looking for cartoonists, I'm looking for people who have never drawn comix before and would like to experiment communicating in a different media. I'm looking for people and groups to work on pieces together. If you're an active activist all the better. The subject matter is whichever you choose,

I shall be looking into environmentally sound recycled card or heavy stock paper, and reproduction.

I want to debut the booklets at the lo-fi comics festival Caption, followed by mass distribution at Climate Camp, and any other events.
