mozaz a truely excellent set of photos you took there well done the way you reacted to this incident with your camera is admirable real life real times on real streets.....night clubs like gatecrasher are/were dungeons where social stupidity and ignorance thrive so i say good riddence to these unsafe buildings.

Am I right to say the building did not collapse from this fire? Buildings never collapse from fire unless the buildings also contain explosives like on 9-11. Investigate the truth! www.prisonplanet.com

As stated in most of the news reports, the building did collapse - narrowly missing firefighters.

While most of the front wall survives, from the rear, you can see how much of the building collapsed during the fire.

Working nearby, I didn't hear anything which sounded like explosives.

Gatecrasher had been an awful club for a long time. I'm sure 10-20 years ago it was a great trance venue but that hasn't been the case for ages. All the nights they've been doing are crappy cheese and RNB binge drinking nights. They pack people in, sell them as much alcohol as possible and kick them out for some pissed up brawling. Gatecrasher was not a nice club. They did a trance night once a month which was over priced and full of heavy handed security. Whilst Gatecrasher was important in the early days of trance the owners obviously realised what a huge market there was for binge drinking and shit discos.
The amount of press coverage defending it has been baffling. I'm sure people have wonderful memories but has no one been to this club lately? It is NOT a dance music venue. the only problem is the 1000 or so idiots who went there will end up ruining the atmosphere at better clubs in Sheffield. Shame...

johan you know your clubs very well, personally i have not been to a night club since dec 2003 waiting for the ban on smoking to come into force then might give them another try most night clubs as far a iam concerned should go the same way as gatecrasher ! "up in flames"....belated 60th birthday wishes i loved your total football of the 1970's

There are some pretty good clubs in Shef to be fair (though i'm not naming them as i like the few nights i go to and am an elitist bastard, bwahahaha). If your actually into a scene and meeting similar minded people there's always something to find. If you just wanna get shit faced, grope girls and get into fights then I guess there's a tear to be shed for Gatecrasher.
Cheers for the shout. Though it upsets me when people forget that I also managed Barce to a European Cup as well as being a stonkin player. Its probably for the best they forget my son Jordi though, he is a berk.
