Gari had been involved in the movement for 25 years, and was still very active on demos, stalls, meetings etc. He is without doubt the one person that we could say attended more events than anyone else we know!! Coach trips to events will never be the same again. He could almost invariably be seen at big marches shaking a tin raising money for Green Meadow Animal Sanctuary and selling purple lapel ribbons out of a bucket. In his home town of Coventry, he was heavily involved in cat rescue, trapping & neutering etc. When Gari died on 18th June 2006, the animals lost one of their greatest friends. GARI ALLEN REMEMBRANCE

Sat 30th June - Sun 1st July

Details taken from  http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=925

A memorial event for a great friend of the animals, veteran AR activist Gari Allen of Coventry Animal Alliance, will be held at Friend Farmed Animal Rescue near Tonbridge in Kent.  http://www.friendsanimalrescue.org.uk/

The event is intended specifically to remember Gari and his work for the animals. There will be the laying of a specially engraved hand picked welsh slate from Gari's favourite holiday location, at 4pm on Saturday, followed by food and a party, with practical sanctuary work on Sunday.

Friends are urged to offer support - please get in touch to get involved in any way, or add to the activities proposed, for example by bringing fruit trees for the orchard - the rescue's pigs will thank you!

Memorial Update from the organiser

21.06.2007 15:13

What a man! Can't believe it's been a year since he died. Miss him so very, very much. My best mate,my confident,my brother. Words alone cannot do any justice to this fine, complex, funny, loyal, adored man.

His death was so out of the blue that his funeral was quite a rushed affair so I have organised a memorial for Gari for those that cared about him to pay their respects and say goodbye to this great man in a way that he would have appreciated himself.
Please do get in touch if you would like to have any input into this event, if you would like to say a few words, a poem maybe, some music, anything at all.

The memorial itself will be held at 4.00pm on Saturday 30th December when a fruit tree will be planted and an engraved rock of Welsh slate (taken from a beach Gari and I went to on my birthday) will be laid beneath it. Some words will be spoken and a minutes silence observed. I'd like to encourage anyone wishing to say their own words about Gari to join in at this point.

I would also like to have alternative healers at this event as Gari was the organiser of the gathering healing area and this is where the tree and stone will be. Please get in touch if you are a healer and would like to take part.

Saturday night will be a party to celebrate Gari's life. Gari and I were always out at big Free Parties, it was one of our favourite things, Free Parties and Punk gigs. Saturdays would more often than not be a demo, back to mine to eat, walk and feed the animals, then off out into the countryside for a free party on the night! He certainly knew how to party!

There's plenty of camping space available and we'll be providing an evening meal for everyone. Please do let me know if you're coming so that i can plan ahead foodwise.

For those that are staying over and are willing! There will be day of work on the sanctuary on Sunday as there is always something to do!

Please e-mail or call me if you are coming and/or you wish to add something to the event yourself.

Thankyou, I look forward to hearing from you
