Mesud Barzani is liable for destabilising both Iraq and Turkey.

Ayoub Bazzaz (London, UK, Sunday 10th June 2007). | 14.06.2007 13:21 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Iraq

The consequence of American invasion to Iraq in April 2003 and its limitless support to the Kurdish allies in Iraq had caused numerous damages to Iraqi internal affairs and a real chaos to the neighbourhoods. Recently the sovereignty of Turkey is violated by the separatist Kurdistan Workers’ communist party rebels (PKK) following Mesud Barzani, the leader of KDP’s latest threats to Turkey.

The limitless American support to their Kurdish allies in Iraq had already caused numerous damages to both Iraqi internal affairs and a real chaos to the neighbourhoods. Countries are legally committed to take any appropriate action to protect their sovereignty, borders and their own people from any internal threats or foreign armed offences. The sovereignty of Turkey has already been violated by the separatist Kurdistan Workers’ communist party rebels (PKK) following Mesud Barzani, the leader of Kurdistan Democratic Party KDP’s latest threats to Turkey.

Barzanis’ intervention into Turkish internal affairs has been documented in many occasions to violate the Turkish national security by provoking the Turkish Kurds to create chaos (explosions in both Turkish capital Ankara last month and in Istanbul, today 10th June 2007). Those explosives are likely to be imported from Western boarders i.e. Greece and Armenia via their intellectuals the so called “Asayish” and carried out by PKK activists. Simultaneously, he is supporting the growing PKK force within Iraq, Iran and Syria to achieve the same objectives. Several evidences do exist i.e. Iraqi territories are now given free by Barzani as a safe haven to the PKK terrorist to establish many PKK political party bureaus, special TV channels are established within both Iraq and Europe, military training bases are in use in Iraqi cities of Mosul, Erbil, Kerkuk and even in Baghdad to train the PKK rebels for terrorism. In addition, almost all the Iraqi Army equipments being confiscated by Kurdish militia post-invasion are now employed by the PKK to launch attacks against Turkish army, killing and abducting civilians.

No doubt, the PKK leadership is inspired by both Kurdish leaders Mesud Barzani and Jalal Talbani, has therefore never stopped of challenging and confronting Turkish Government. The Turkish Kurds are seeking independency who will soon declar their interest in separation from Turkey once the present political chaos in Iraq is settled down for the favour of Barzani. Turkey has previously been alerted and advised to apply a hard line against their opportunist Kurds who could be disastrous to Turkey once Iraqi Kurds have guaranteed their independency from Iraq. The recent deployment of the Turkish troops is the first step towards halting armed attacks of both PKK and KDP rebels.

In contrary to Iranian government, Turkey had always kept itself out of trouble by adopting a peaceful and a really balanced policy regarding Iraqi affairs. Turkey has always sought Iraqi unity, preserved good relations with its consecutive governments, and had never intervened into the Iraqi internal affairs. This positive attitude of Turkey was always misinterpreted as a weakness of Turkey by Barzani while Turkey can paralyse Barzani’s military power when needed. The military deployment of Turkish troops cross the Northern Iraqi border is therefore the outcome of the Barzani’s violation to Turkish national security and a threat to its Government in establishing autonomy to its Turkish Kurds prior to separation and independency.

While, Iraq as a country has lost complete sovereignty due to the American invasion since April 2003, the Iraqi national resistance grew up steadily as an alternative power to protect Iraq from further damage being caused by the occupation and the non-impartial governors. Within the years of occupation, American administration has proven to have no intention to pull out of Iraq at all. Its allegations to pull back troops out of Kurdistan regional government (KRG) are a dirty political game and imply an insignificant aspect from the military point of view. They also are false, but do directly fuel the fear amongst the Iraqi Kurdish leadership for their safety and to remain unprotected thereafter. It also provides an excuse to American troops to be formally demanded by both Kurds and Shi’at allied to remain in Iraq. Equally, USA officials’ condemnation to Barzanis’ challenges has been taken as a joke by Barzani himself as it sounds a temporary anaesthesia to Turkey to prevent them attacking the USA allied, Barzani!

Two of the USA F-16 jet fighter had crossed the Iraqi border last month violating Turkish airspace can no way be accidental but could be interpreted, in turn, as an alert to Turkey not to take any serious action against PKK while humiliating Turkey as a bait to ease its entry to European Union. Other evidence confirms the CIAs’ involvement in funding and arming the PKK rebels in Iraq and supporting the Iranian Kurdish Democratic Party (IKDP) fighters. All these evidences prove the role of USA in fuelling another war in the area.

Currently, there is growing public demands by almost all the Turkish people imposed over their leaders to act firmly to demolish the power of PKK before they turn Turkey into a “hell”. The recent news from Turkey attributing the failure of Turkish PM Mr. Erdogan’s party election to his inability to settle the account of PKK in Turkey and failure to deal firmly with Barzanis’ ever growing power which has endangered the whole areas.

Explosions of Ankara last month killed 6 and injured many Turkish citizens had boiled up the Turkish people to pressurise Mr. Erdogan to put an end to such chaos while diplomatic actions have failed. There is a growing Kurdish intention to destabilise Turkey towards splitting Turkey being fuelled by American and Israel supports. This escalated development in this region had exhausted Turkeys’ alternatives; and the government and Army who both ran out of patience. Equally, the regional countries i.e. Iran, and Syria are likely to undergo similar ordeals soon should Kurdish crescendo is not stopped by Turkey.

The implications of such chaos in the area will convict the USA as the main importer of wars and may further ruin the reputation of USA worldwide. To safe face, the USA administration is demanded to stop its unlimited support to the Kurdish appraisal led by Barzani before they turn the region into a “hell”.
George Bush is invited to understand the meaning of and the differences between “terrorism” and “anti-terrorism” and who initiates the first. He is also aught to revise his disastrous policy of invading Iraq which has completely disintegrated Iraqi people. Serious efforts are also requested from USA administration to keep faith and to verify between its real objectives of establishing democracy in Iraq and between deliberately spreading violence in the region. Finally, the USA has no right to avert Turkey from practising its legal rights in protecting its own territories and people from the outlawed individuals of the PKK and their leader criminal of war the apprentice politician, Barzani.
