Nottingham's Children's Forum beats off UK wide competition for an award

The Children's Forum, an initiative set up by the Hyson Green based charity, The Partnership Council, has beaten 171 similar projects across the UK to make it into the final 29 shortlisted projects in the prestigious national Creating the Future: ASC Awards for Sustainable Communities.

Making it this far is an incredible opportunity in itself and now the Children’s Forum is in for a nail biting evening as the six finalists are announced at a gala awards dinner on the 7th June at London’s Artillery Gardens.

The Children’s Forum was launched by The Partnership Council to work with 8-11 year olds in some of the most deprived areas of the city, giving them a voice and the chance to raise issues face to face with local public service providers. But the Children’s Forum is about more than just giving children a voice, it also ensures that the issues raised by the children are actually acted upon, engaging and empowering the young people involved whilst helping them to feel that they can make a difference to the world in which they live.

The Children’s Forum is competing for an award in the Engaging Young People Category whilst the awards themselves were launched by the government to recognise and reward initiatives that contribute to making towns and cities better places in which to live and work. In particular, the Engaging Young People award looks for projects or organisations that have worked hard to act on the views of young people aged under 25.

It would be fantastic for everyone involved in the Children’s Forum and the city as a whole to win this award, although it can’t be under-estimated how well the project has done to be short listed from such a large number of original entries.
