Rostock Report

Sammy | 05.06.2007 07:00

Arrived today and here is my first impressions

Work meant I could not get out earlier but a two day train and hitching journey got me to the convergence centre.

First thoughts:

Police - Obvious police infiltration of just about everywhere, I cant understand why others have not mentioned it. I can see them all over the place, they are filming, making notes, talking to people about where events are occuring next and noting movements of groups. I saw some reports about this on the German and Dutch Indymedia sites but so far nothing here on the UK newswire. If you are coming be aware.

Black Block - A complete pain in the arse ! I have lost count of the amount of times I have heard people from the Block talking about the fights they are going to have, the damage they are going to do and how everybody else is so weak. As far as I am concerned they can leave now. One step away from Football thugs planning next Saturdays fight in the town centre.

Control - We are miles away from the G8 centre and we have no chance whatsover of getting close to it. Perhaps that doesn't matter but I had hoped to be heard by Blair, Bush and the rest if not seen.

Facilities - Basic but OK, however I am unhappy to see so many people cooking meat, the Germans just dont seem to understand Veggie or Vegan lifestyles. I have pointed out how offensive meat consumption is to many people but they dont seem to get it. Very little entertainment and the Web access is near impossible, nobody seems to have laid on anywhere to recharge mobile phones or laptops etc so bring spare batteries.

More reports later today.

Peace

Sammy
