A Great Day

Peace in the Park was a great success this year- thanks to all who volunteered and played for free. The event is a huge collaberation of work to demonstrate solidarity to global peace.
The aim of the festival is to concentrate on creativity and fun as a means of co-operation and solidarity. I agree the need for a clearer anti-war message- with the bands using their voices to openly condenm war and fascism and this will be firmly encouraged for next years festival.
Peace in the Park has clearly grown and expanded since the first event 5 years ago. This was possible due to the involment of more bands, organisations and members of the public. However, this does not mean there is any more money available. Everyone who takes part does so for free and festival costs are kept to a bare minimum.
While it is obviously a clear objective to raise money for the nominated charities, the point of Peace in the Park is to create a joyful free event for the people of Sheffield to experiance unity within their local society. Although the money has not yet been counted, I am quite sure there will be more than last year- but you can find that out when it is published in the paper and online!
Plans for next year are to move to the Ponderosa park- a beautiful piece of land amongst the flats near the university roundabout- keep in contact with the festival at
http://www.peaceinthepark.org.uk. mail
peaceintheparkfestival@yahoo.co.uk to get involved.
Peace in the Park is going from strengh to strength- there is always room for improvement- so lets make it happen.

Great, did you go out and take some photos? Eh, don't think you did. Also, I'm sure the dancers, samba band, and guy on stillts are a lot more photogenic than a load of local punks sitting around...
Nice pictures Chris !

Crass Wankers,,

de-tone is in all probability sheffield's best kept digitial artist, today is peace in da park and de-tone has placed a notice on each tree encouraging people to hug them and become better informed about the benefits of tree-hugging.. Just as he adds a further 12 plus images to here, we have asked him to stop at around 100. Yes, he had sex with Reka but hugging trees was more fun. Andria desires to go back to the park and hug the middle class, me i would sing them to sleep.. Just as Jack Kervorkian was released, his bail stops him from putting the middle class out of their misery, but i have no such constraints or conditions binding me.
Are my comments on peace in da park for this year i have posted them here because some wanker has decided to use my name and drag me into the Middle Class bun fight..
People know i no longer add much to here but use
Mozaz aka 0742,,
or was that Josh T Sinclair
Ps another good reason indy need to log isp (though they do but deny) so people have to log in.. You never give racist and their ilk freedom of spech just a tast of the pavement..

by the way peace in the modern capitalist consumerist world is a pipe dream that will never become reality.

than the last one in the same venue (ten years back?).
I was doing a stall at another festival in London the next day; it was also good though I have to
say Sheffield 'Peace in the Park' had the edge; never underestimate the political
impact of showing you can throw a good party! Marshal McLuhan had it about right.

Yes But.....Negative vibes
10.06.2007 23:13
On plus points...There was a guy,(Tom), walking round Endcliffe carrying a multi -colour Peace flag, therefore literally, practising Peace in the Park(hey what a concept!).
On whingeing and negative vibes.......Well, someone did say to me, "Where is the politics of the event"?(e.g. Anti-war, etc?), when, realistically, year after year, the indymedia photos and my own experience have shown me - the same kind of people, sitting around on the grass or in the dance tents - with a bottle of cider in their hands. I would guess that probably 98% plus of those who attend - go for the hedonistic, free festival feel that they get from it, then you probably don,t see that much of them for the next year, i.e. at important political or campaign meetings or events and such.
So, you, well meaning, hard working, PintheP volunteers say I should get off my arse and do something...make the change? Maybe.
But as I have said, I have been on a campaign stall the last four years and missed most of the first year as I was in Manchester on an important political/campaign day workshop.
I can tell the organisers, if they are still looking and listening(and are not all in sunny European or further climes by now) that a fair few of the non young campaigners on the stalls had had enough of the surrounding music and hedonistic buzz going around by 4pm/4.30p.m and may not be inclined to attend next time.........as I said, maybe the political/campaign stalls were well overlooked, fairly disregarded this time?
And finally, I know, I remember that the whole thing was set up in Sheffield by a group or groups who wanted a different approach to the SWOPs marching around all over the place and/or Hijacking most local events and issues.
In that respect, hopefully, it has been a success and, jolly well done too, for ALL the fundraising for ITDG, ASSIST, Nigeria, etc.......excellent work there.
Not bad........could do better.........if only they would take the time to listen and learn(personally I think that too much lager, or smoky stuff often gets in the way).
Tough titty, huh?
