Today, Mendip District Council awarded the Big Green Gathering a licence for 20,000 people to attend the five day family camping event, which will be held from 1st -5th August at Fernhill Farm, Nr Cheddar. The Big Green Gathering is Britain’s premier ecological event combining an eclectic mix of music, theatre and dance together with workshops and discussions on all aspects of sustainability, all powered by renewable energy. You can even do your washing courtesy of a pedal powered washing machine.

The 190 acre site is divided into several areas where festival goers can see renewable energy in action, learn about permaculture, listen to experts in the Green Forum, try their hand at a new green crafts, see examples of low impact living in the sustainable homes area or take time to relax in the healing fields.

For those that want more thoughtful discussion the Ethics, Spirituality and Philosophy Zone is where you can make the connections between the material world and our spiritual well-being.

An action packed kid’s area on the village green with clowns, dance, theatre and an environmental fun fair ensures that there is always something exciting for children at the Big Green Gathering.

The Big Green Gathering is proud of its GAMA (General Access and Mobility Area) field where those with mobility issues will find a warm festival welcome and are able to take part in all aspects of the event in the knowledge that their special needs will be catered for.

Brig Oubridge, Chair of The Big Green Gathering said today, “We are delighted to have been granted our Licence and it is now full steam ahead. We look forward to Big Green Gathering 2007 to be our most successful event ever and we can promise attendees a low carbon holiday, which will help reduce their ecological footprint. The Big Green Gathering prides itself on its ability to put on a festival that is an environmental showcase and we are encouraged by other festivals such as Hay on Wye who have expressed an interest in attending in order to green their own events.”

Tickets for the five day extravaganza are £110 Adults, £80 Concessions and £30 children. Children under the age of five are free. For more information call 01458 830281 or visit: www.big-green-gathering.com
