A few hours before the presidential speech, two explosive devices detonated in Santiago, one in the headquarters of the Party for Democracy and another in front of the Inspectorate of Labor. In spite of the damage caused, nobody was injured.
The first exploded last night in front of the Inspectorate of Labor in the district of Providencia at 11:30 PM. This caused damage to the large windows of the adjoining building, the Hotel Militar. The device was placed in the water meter located between the buildings. According to pamphlets found at the location, the attack was in protest against labor legislation, although no subversive group took responsibility. The other device went off in front of the headquarters of the Party for Democracy at 5:00 AM, in Santiago Center. The force of the explosion damaged a large amount of glass and furniture inside.
