No Borders Nottingham 'National Day of Action on Asylum Rights'

In response to a call out by the 'No Borders' group, folks gathered in the Market Square on Saturday afternoon.
A stall was arranged, leaflets handed out, questions answered ........
It was only a few minutes after setting up, that they were approached by a couple of Community Protection Officers. They said they had received complaints from the market stall holders there, and that they should shift! Folks however, remained. You see, no offences had been committed, no obstruction existed, all of good order and no laws broken!
It just seems to me that there is a presumption that commercial concerns and use, are given priority over community events and public use. This is the latest in a series of exchanges that makes some of us wonder what policing priorities are in operation in 'OUR' shiney new Market Square. {However, I think I know already}.

On Saturday 19/5/07 there will be a National Day of Action on Asylum Rights. No Borders Nottingham will be in the Market Square from 3.00pm with a stall and banners. Please come along to support us in raising public awareness about asylum issues. The last two demos in the Square, which have focussed on the situation faced by the Congolese, have been big, lively and uplifting and got a good reaction from the public. It would be great to have that sort of atmosphere again, where we celebrate the world we want to see as well as protesting about the one we have.

Great to see many members of the Industrial workers of the World at the frontline of the stall. Wow talk about hot off the press article! I would have been there, but it said something different on national indymedia thread a few days ago, we really all need paying a lot more.
I wonder how much the two support officers are on? I know its a hell of a lot less than the normal police who protested at their inception.
Seems like these 2 are working too hard for Mr Collins,Blair & Bush. Always worth reminding them of the minor wage they are on & how much their bosses care for them. They do have abit of medical training & thats what we should all be able to focus on, I know for a fact that our people there mostly have same level of training & one at least is an ex chief paramedic.
Maybe next spring into action, we can do workshops on healing the planet at slab square?
