communities in the U.K rely on certain institutions where it can congregate, organise and get a sense of self. The community in the U.K today is slowly being eroded, especially those in the countryside. The post offices around the countryside will be closed very soon, because Mr Darling states that the network is unsustainable. There is no doubt that some are, but this notion of unefficiency is mostly inaccurate. Mr Darlings reading is that efficiency= profit, the post offices are not making money (and are mostly not allowed to anyway) and so their subsidies will be scrapped. However from a justice point of view, the post offices have a crucial role in many communities. My parents own a post office in North Wales, and they give the community a sense of self, and importantly give help and aid to those who are marginalised (e.g. pensioners will have to go 10 miles into town to recieve their pension). Not only will they be affected, but the village shop will also go, then the pub etc, these things have an effect beyond themselves. Many people i find in cities ignore the countryside, because they view it as the domain of the conservative, those who are living in the past. However neoliberalism affects them, as much as workers in the towns, and it needs to be stopped, if were not all going to turn into a bunch of selfish drones!
