NoPornNorthampton.org launched in 2006 to raise awareness about how porn harms people and communities. It explores legal strategies that can be used to reduce the crime and blight that can stem from adult enterprises. We currently offer over 400 articles on porn and the porn industry. The site serves over 15,000 visitors per month.

NoPornNorthampton.org is a large new repository of information about how porn harms people and communities. Formed in 2006 by citizens of Northampton, Massachusetts, NoPornNorthampton serves over 15,000 visitors per month.

We aim to reduce the demand for porn by showing how it can addict viewers and damage their relationships. We show how porn is a factor in domestic abuse, sex crimes and child molestation. We also provide legal strategies that cities and towns can use to reduce the crime and blight that can stem from adult enterprises. These strategies include zoning adult businesses away from homes and regulating porn viewing booths to slow the spread of disease.

NoPornNorthampton respects the importance of free speech and does not call for increased government censorship of porn. We do believe, however, that porn workers should enjoy increased workplace protections, and that it should be illegal to pay people to perform certain unusually risky acts, such as "ass-to-mouth" porn.

NoPornNorthampton currently offers over 400 articles on porn and the porn industry. We provide overviews of important books and presentations in the field. Two of our newest offerings are overviews of these free video presentations:

thanks, but i looked at the website, below are some choice quotes

and these people have no place on indymedia

"According to a growing body of social-scientific evidence, children in families disrupted by divorce and out-of-wedlock birth do worse than children in intact families on several measures of well-being."

"Rudolph Giuliani came to the mayoralty understanding one very big thing that had eluded his immediate predecessors--that to reduce crime and reverse the infamous decline in the city's livability, little things counted."

"Wives have a right, indeed an obligation, to police their husbands from going into the gutter to get excitement."

"We believe many people consume porn because they are misguided as to what will make them happy"

"The harmlessness of marriage-free living would certainly be news to many children of divorce. "

"We are against mindless sex, abusive sex, sex without regard for issues like love, fidelity, commitment, pregnancy, disease and children."

"On the contrary, we want to see businesses thrive on King Street. One of our concerns about the porn shop is that it will scare pedestrians and shoppers away from surrounding businesses."

"As for our wars, securing the rights of women in Afghanistan and Iraq appears to be a point of pride for George Bush. He specifically criticizes the Taliban for "public whippings of women". Does this really sound so different from the Bondage, Domination and Gangbang categories at the Capital Video-affiliated site,"

"It is plausible to argue that the benefits of a Dunkin' Donuts or a Wal-Mart outweigh their problems."

"The interests at stake were to prevent crime, protect the city's retail trade, maintain property values, and preserve the city's general quality of life.

These are the same issues that concern NoPornNorthampton."

"While our spiritual beliefs inform our opinion that porn often promotes a degraded and commodified vision of intimate relationships,"
