John McDonnell’s “historic opportunity”

Socialist | 15.05.2007 13:45 | Health | Social Struggles | London

If John McDonnell, as the ‘rebel’ Labour leadership challenger, was to speak out about this wholly despicable injustice which affects some of the most vulnerable people in our society - many of which are young children - it would not be a moment too soon.

And if he did, he is guaranteed to get my support and that of millions of others.

Vote Labour: Vote Imperial Genocide

How many more millions does the Anglo Americian Empire have to kill before you stop supporting the Imperial Labour Party?

The count from 1945 to 1990 is 12 to 15 million people:  http://nafeez.blogspot.com/2007/05/strategy-of-tension.html

There is a good comment here:  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2007/05/370762.html?c=on#c173800

I've had M.E. It was awful. But whatever John McDonnell thinks about the subject, I still wouldn't join the Labour Party, while they are bombing Iraq, destroying the health service etc etc.

While generalised comments about politicians and particulalry the L/P being venal, cynical, corrupt, in tow to big business/neo-liberalism, etc, may be correct, I have met JM on a number of occasions and believe me he breaks the mould: with John it simply isnt 'business as usual, though no one knows what would happen if he did gain power. John was also one of the few people who spoke out against the Welfare Reform Bill, (now an Act) something the majority of activists of all flavours ignored. Though, even he gave up on it when he saw the lack of interest from the left, etc. His voting record is second to none, he even got kicked out of the GLC by Livingslime for being too left wing! He relates very well to people, particualry the young and has also written a booklet: 21st C Socialism which I predict will become influential.I'm no fan of 'leaders' of any stripe, but If John can ameliorate some of the worst excesses of Blairism/Brownism such as implementation of the Freud review, public sector cuts, etc, then rather than wait for some anarchist nirvana or way off socialist paradise, thats enough for me.
