National Weekend of Action For Refugees / 9 events in 7 cities

TCAR (Tyneside Community Action for Refugees) | 15.05.2007 01:52 | Anti-racism | Migration | Social Struggles

This weekend actions will be taking place around the country in defence of asylum rights, following a call put out by Tyneside Community Action for Refugees. It's only by working together and building opposition locally that the Labour government's war on asylum seekers will be beaten. Please make an effort to get to your nearest action and get involved. Together we are stronger!

On Saturday 19/5/07 there will be a National Day of Action on Asylum Rights. No Borders Nottingham will be in the Market Square from 3.00pm with a stall and banners. Please come along to support us in raising public awareness about asylum issues. The last two demos in the Square, which have focussed on the situation faced by the Congolese, have been big, lively and uplifting and got a good reaction from the public. It would be great to have that sort of atmosphere again, where we celebrate the world we want to see as well as protesting about the one we have. All welcome... See you there!

Coventry events on May 19th are being planned by people from the
Refugee Centre, the Peace House, STAR and other concerned groups and
individuals. One of the activities we are planning in Coventry is to
walk to the Midlands Enforcement Unit in Solihull where asylum seekers
have to go every month or every week or twice a week to sign in with
the Immigration service.
