PRESS RELEASE 13th May 2007
Over 60 MP’s now back SELRAP’s Campaign to reopen the Colne – Skipton line as part of the National Rail Network.
We now have the support of 17 Parish Councils, 3 Town Councils, 61 MP’s of all parties from all parts of England and from Scotland and Wales, 8 Peers, 18 MEPs and many other public bodies and individuals.
The closure should never have happened. Restoration would open up so many travel opportunities, not only for the residents of Skipton and East Lancashire but for the Yorkshire & Humberside and North West Regions. It would improve employment and leisure options especially those who have no access to a car or who would prefer not to drive. It would open up the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the Merseyside and Manchester regions and give access to Lancashire from West and North Yorkshire.
Just 11.5 miles of missing railway separate two of our regions.
More information can be found on our website, www.selrap.org.uk where any who wish to support our campaign can download a membership form.
