Swiss report

03.05.2007 06:30

I feel the above report is not accurate so I will give information.

There was a large peaceful student event in the city centre and there is for Swiss people most May Day but in the afternoon a small group which I think was about 10 persons attacked a man in a BMW auto (the picture is above). I am not sure why but some said because he had been taking pictures. The police tried to arrest these persons but then the situation got out of control with the same persons breaking windows and making lots of trouble.

We the students who set up the event do not support these persons and their actions, it was wrong and was a threat and worry to many mothers who were at the place with their children. We think they may have been from Italy and came to start trouble

Just 10 people caused all that damage?? Plus the first photo suggests a very large anarchist presence.

Why would someone bother to post up such a ridiculous account of the demo?

Clearly there were more than 10 people involved in this expression of outrage - and why, oh why, would he suspect that they were Italians?

Lets just ignore the deluded fucker.

the first pic is NOT from switzerland. it is used in the feature on indymedia switzerland to announce mayday but is therefore not from this year's mayday nor from switzerland

@smush: you are right - @peter: no

03.05.2007 08:45

@smush:

I´m sorry the first pic really is just from the anouncement feature on indymedia switzerland and not from the riots and attacks in zürich.

it was a mistake, I uploaded this because on my computer I named it also mayday switzerland, like I named the other pics.

I did not intend to lie or to use it for propaganda or whatever. All the other pics and the report, I ensure you, are true. @indy-mods: if possible take out pic 1.

@peter:

it is ridiculous to say that it where about 10 people rioting. no comment.
a number of immigrants took part in the actions, yes (I think not from italy). your suggestion "they came from italy to make trouble" is nationalist and also ridiculous.

I saw the event

03.05.2007 11:18

A couple of things.

These pictures are not all of the event or even of the city.

The number of people involved in rioting as opposed to the earlier march was probably about 15 I would say

They were being shouted at and booed by the majority of the students who were there

This rioting was about two things, giving a man with a sports BMW a kicking and looting a wine shop

By the way, this statement at the start of the post,

"After many hours of streetfighting between protesters and police, people began to attack banks, private companies, courts, police stations and cars of the rich with fire bombs and paint bombs. countless windows were smashed."

Is wrong. Fighting didn't go on for hours, it was more like an hour. People didn't attack banks etc. They smashed a few bus shelter windows and then broke into a wine shop to loot wine. There were no fire bombs.

Today all of the student groups who organised these peacefull family day have condemmned those who did this damage. I'm not sure if they were Italian or not although many of them were speaking Italian.

Realism needed

03.05.2007 14:38

Some rich bloke gets his BMW thrashed because he chatted up the girlfriend of a Black n Red and an Off Licence gets its windows put in so a few free beers could be got.

Not really the start of the revolution is it ?

Realist

this is what england needs!

although the anarchists where by far the loudest and most disabidiant collective at the london mayday protest, there was still a huge lack of action. this was mainly due to the fact that there wasnt that many of us and if we had started something we would have been jump on instantly by the met. for mayday 2008 we need to have real presence at the demo and make our feelings known! this means you and all your like minded friends coming to the demo(and coming prepered).

At the demo we where confronted by a trade unionist member shouting and balling because we burst into the "exclusion zone" infront of the stage and started chanting and waving the anarchist flag. he tried to tell us that it was not our day it was for trade unions only! and that we should leave. i call this man stupid, selfish and ignorant! for claiming that it was a day for unions only he made outcasts of every worker on this planet not lucky enough to have the conditions were a union is valid(although i dont really beleive that unions have done much in this country anyway). i believe that we need to take mayday back! and return it to ALL the workers of the world! next year we dont need spakers, we need action!

remeber the anarchist workers of 1886!
and give hope to all those working in poor conditions today!

They say they support the workers but I bet half of these tosspots haven't done a days work in their lives. But they'll happily destroy other people's places of work, or the property people had to work hard to afford.

And of course isn't it funny how Indymedia was originally created as an alternative to the mainstream who were giving the impression that anti-capitalists are violent thugs; and yet here you are, proud that these violent thugs are anti-capitalists.

Richie Rich

What drugs you been doing Rich?

Lets break your shitty analysis up into little pieces and examine the reasons behind your inability to process info.

1, "They say they support the workers but I bet half of these tosspots haven't done a days work in their lives."

Are you a betting man Rich? Does all your analytical rhetoric revolve around making bets?

I bet you're a wanker.

2,"...they'll happily destroy other people's places of work, or the property people had to work hard to afford"

Is that what your view on big business is. Ask most people that work in big businesses in the west and especially at their production plants in the 'developing' world and most will probably tell you that they work hard and get nothing in return.

3,"And of course isn't it funny how Indymedia was originally created as an alternative to the mainstream who were giving the impression that anti-capitalists are violent thugs; and yet here you are, proud that these violent thugs are anti-capitalists."

Indymedia was made to either report events that are not reported in the mainstream media and to report events which are reported in the mainstream media, from another point of view. Of course rich what you will never understand is that to some people. (possibly yourself included) A smashed McDonald's/Nike/Gap/Starbucks/Coca Cola etc window is far worse than any crimes commited by these same companies all around the world. And thats where I think the real joke lyes.

SOLIDARITY TO MAYDAY RIOTERS ALL OVER THE WORLD
