EMERGENCY FAX REQUEST: TCAR family due to be deported 11.25am Thursday 3rd May

TCAR (Tyneside Community Action for Refugees) | 02.05.2007 20:40 | Anti-racism | Migration

This week Zeynep Kayran and her two children were snatched from their home in Newcastle and are due to be deported to Turkey at 11.25am on Thursday 3rd May on Turkish Airways flight TK1980. Zeynep was an active member of the Kurdish liberation organisation Hadep in Turkey, and suffered abuse for this at the hands of the police. Her husband Ali was not present when they were snatched from Newcastle, but the Labour government intends to deport them anyway, splitting up the family.

For months now the Kayrans have been active members of TCAR, and have stood alongside other families under threat. Now they need you help. There is fresh evidence for their case, and their solicitor has applied to the court to halt their deportation to allow time for a further review. You can help to buy time for the family to get a further review of their case by faxing or phoning Turkish Airlines and asking them to refuse to carry the family (you can use the model fax attached or write your own). The airline will tell you it's not up to them, but there are numerous grounds for the airline to legally refuse to carry the family, including the medical condition of Zeynep and the distress the deportation will cause to the Kayrans and to other passengers on the flight.

And remember!

Saturday 5th May
TCAR Right to Work contingent on Tyne and Wear May Day march - Meet 11am at Centre for Life (next to Central Station),

Saturday 19th May
TCAR national day of action for asylum rights, with actions confirmed for Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester and London.
Newcastle march meeting 11.30am at Centre for Life, followed by rally at the Monument with music, speakers, stalls and street theatre exposing the daily barbarity of Labour's dawn raids.

The Pledge of Resistance to dawn raids is gaining momentum in several parts of Newcastle, but we need more help! If you'd be prepared to speak to people in your local area about signing the pledge - making a promise that if there is an immigration raid in their local area they will come out in the street and oppose the raid - please get in touch.
