Vote No2ID in Manchester Local Elections 2007!

The Local Elections in May will elect councillors in over 30 wards to Manchester City Council. Manchester No2ID are making sure that ID cards are on the agenda, and are giving residents the information they need to vote on this issue.
Three motions have been put before the Council in recent years opposing ID cards. Three times they have been voted down by the pro-ID Labour majority. They have not bothered to ask the Treasurer how much the system will cost Council Tax payers, no idea how it might make the council's services more efficient or less vulnerable to fraud (it won't), and no idea of the risks of identity theft to people forced onto the Big Brother database by circumstance. Unlike dozens of councils, Manchester City Council refuses to keep its inhabitants safe from the NIR, or to rule out Mancunians being used as guinea pigs in pilots and trials.
Dave Page, Manchester No2ID Co-Ordinator, said "any candidate who supports ID Cards and the NIR supports wasting your money and violating your privacy, and does not deserve your vote. Manchester No2ID will ask all candidates from all parties for their opinions on the National Identity Register, and the people of Manchester can let them know their opinion at the ballot box!"
