Straw Bale at Ecoworks, 3-5th May

There will be a straw bale activity weekend at Ecoworks Community Garden, Hunger Hill allotments, St. Ann's, Nottingham, from Thurs 3rd-Sat 5th may. All welcome, whatever your experience!

Straw baling is a low-impact construction method which is gaining interest; it is fun and relatively easy to do, requires no special skills and very little equipment, is cheap, and makes beautiful, super-insulated and idiosyncratic buildings. Our ongoing project at Ecoworks is, as far as we know, Nottingham's first such building; it will create a central volunteer and project space for the Community Garden

On this activity weekend, we will be putting in the window frames in the main building, and infilling around the windows with bales. A good opportunity to try out this technique, in particular splitting bales to custom length. (There will also be some carpentry to do if people prefer - fitting cedar cladding around the front of the building.)

We will be there from 10.30 to 4.30 each day (and will stay later on Fri and Sat if people want). Tea and coffee etc. provided; please bring lunch. Transport can be arranged on Thurs and Fri - please ring 07719 428187 for any further info.

PS. More baling, lime rendering and clay plastering to follow this summer....we'll keep you posted.

PPS. Photographer Tash has been documenting the progress of the building over the last 2 years or so. His last set of pics (with links to all the earlier ones) is at
