BAE Systems in Bristol occupied this morning

A number of activists acting independently got into the BAE Systems site in Filton, Bristol, this morning, and briefly occupied an office, hanging a banner out of the window.

There is a full statement from the occupiers at  http://bristol.indymedia.org/newswire.php?story_id=26225

Given that BAE Systems is an integral part of the military-industrial complex, as well as being the subject of widespread allegations relating to corruption & bribery internationally, it was no surprise that the police reacted rather excitedly - numerous copcars & vans dashed to the scene. Of great interest to the cops & BAE is the question of how BAE security was breached?

5 protesters were arrested mid-morning. As of 9.30pm all were still being held by the cops at Bristol’s Trinity Road copshop.

The action attracted widespread local media coverage, on the BBC tv South West news at lunchtime & evening, amongst other media formats. News reports quoted from the activists statement and discussed the allegations against BAE. There is an online BBC news report at  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6594995.stm
