Redditch Alliance of Greens | 26.04.2007 20:20 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Birmingham
Are you interested in environmental issues?? Would you like to find out how you can easily reduce your personal impact on the planet?? Then don`t miss Redditch`s 2nd annual green fair on Saturday 2 June 2007.
The Redditch Green Fair is about making the world a better place, a chance for anyone concerned about the environment to learn how to lead a greener, more sustainable life. Don`t panic, we don`t want to turn you into a hippy!! We can all make a real difference to the future of the planet by making simple changes to our daily lives - incl cutting down on waste, changing to a renewable energy supplier and buying green/fair trade products etc.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO FIND AT THE FAIR
There will be stalls offering all kinds of green/ethical products and information, including organic produce, fairtrade goods, natural soaps, green books, waste reduction solutions, free veggie food samples and lots more....
There will also be alternative therapists, entertainment and kids fun activities will keep your children amused whilst you browse the stalls. Refreshments will be provided throughout the event by the Redditch Vegetarian and Vegan Society. You can find a full list of stallholders/exhibitors/attractions here http://www.redditchgreenfair.org.uk/stalls.html
WHERE`S IT ALL HAPPENING??
The fair will take place in the heart of Redditch Town Centre inside(and in the grounds of) St Stephens Church, which was the venue for Green Fair 2006, see http://www.redditchgreenfair.org.uk/2006.html If you`re not from Redditch, the church can be found at the top of Unicorn Hill, less than 5 minutes walk from the train/bus stations. For a map of the town centre see http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=52.3073&lon=-1.9417&scale=10000&icon=x (the church is next to the circle)
CAN YOU HELP??
The Redditch Green Fair is organised and run entirely by a very small band of volunteers, independant of county/borough councils, with no support from national organisations/campaigning groups. The aim of the fair is quite simply to promote sustainable, eco-friendly ways of living whilst showcasing the towns ever increasing network of `green` organisations and companies. We plan to stage the fair annually, on or near to World Environment Day, Saturday 5 June. We hope that the fair will grow in size and popularity year after year!
We're on the lookout for more volunteers to assist in making this years event as successful as can be! We need lots of help, in all kinds of different ways, including distributing leaflets/posters, online promotion, donations and help on the big day - everything from setting up tables to washing up in the kitchen!! For further details, see http://www.redditchgreenfair.org.uk/help.html
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
Saturday 2 June has been chosen for the date of the fair because that is just 3 days before World Environment Day, a global day of awareness raising held annually on 5th June. Established by the United Nations and celebrated every year since 1972, WED has become the most globally recognised date in the `green` calendar. The WED theme selected for 2007 focuses on the effects that climate change is having on polar ecosystems and communities, and the ensuing consequences around the world. See http://www.unep.org/wed/2007/english/
