Researcher Being Pursued For Costs - Help Needed

WorkRep | 24.04.2007 11:56 | Liverpool

Rhetta Moran is being pursued by her ex employer after having been made redundant for what many believe were political reasons.

Rhetta is very active in defending the rights of asylum seekers and her research into the government's driving of asylum seekers into destitution has been embarassing to the Labour Government.

Rhetta needs your help now to convince Salford University to drop its vindictive action for costs being held at Manchester Employment Tribunal on Friday.

Did union help?

Was Rhetta in a union? Did they help at all? Can they help with these kinds of legal costs?

Wobbly

That sounds outrageous and vexations

The behaviour of the University does sound as though it may be vexation

in that the sole purpose of pursuing costs is not a diligent intent to recover expenses. Since they showed now diligience in dismissing as soon as they knew she was to be dismissed, it is reasonable to suggest it is not diligence that motivates costs. Since the case was always likely to attract attention it is also reasonable to suggest that the recovery of costs is communicative punishment whose effect will be to diminish the exercise of employee rights in favour of employers whithout diligence. In other ways, the seeking of costs in this way is vexing, not just.
