Pschics refuse to take part in remote viewing attempt in "War on Terror"

Defence intelligence staff at the MOD attempted to set up a remote viewing lab to be used in the "war on terror" the study which cost £18000 involved attempting to recruit 12 "experienced" remote veiwers who advertised their abilities on the internet. All 12 refused to take part in the research! Onto plan B, the MOD then used a group of untrained volunteers to try to establish any capability of novices in the field.
18 remote veiwing sessions were held in 2001, the volunteers were taken to a specially prepared room, were blindfolded and asked to identify the contents of sealed brown envelopes. The envelopes contained images of objects and people includind a Knife, Mother Theresa, and "an Asian individual" a number of the "targets" have been censored in the report on the MOD website, but are thought to be Bin Laden, and the mythical WMD's in Iraq.
Most of the volunteers came up with guesses nowhere close to the correct answer, and one even fell asleep trying to concerntrate on the envelopes.

Heavily censored version of the report released under the freedom of information act can be downloaded here

Astrologically speaking...

"All 12 refused to take part in the research! "
They could see where it was leading !

The Observer today backs up what many scientists have known for years but were too afraid to say, that astrology (dividing personality traits according to when and where you are born) has some basis in fact. I'm a gentle and reflective type so you can trust me on this.

Women born during spring have low serotonin levels because of the long months of winter during which they were in the womb. 'Low serotonin levels are associated with... impulsiveness and aggressiveness, as well as anxiety-related traits like neuroses, harm-avoidance and poor social skills. When combined into a particular temperament... these women are likely to be explosive, overly sensitive and passive-aggressive.' Men born from February to April, on the other hand, are most likely to have high levels of dopamine, another mood-lifting chemical boosted by sunlight. 'This means they will have impulsive and persistent character traits,' said Chotai, whose paper, published next month, is based on a Finnish study of almost 5,000 men and women. Chotai also found that men born from October to January have low dopamine levels and are most likely to be gentle and reflective types.

"You do keep putting your finger in the fire of women. "

If you are refering to me, then you are psychic, my middle-finger is badly burned ( honestly). And that works well as an analogy of my love-life too. But...

I did notice the Observer article was kinder to men than women, that was the Observer journalists fault not mine. I looked for another article on the same report for that reason, but couldn't find one as it hasn't been released yet. It is a Finnish report so I'm sure when it does come out it won't be sexist. Did you notice Finland has just become the first country with a majority female government ? Cos I did.

I suspect that the 12 accurately predicted that they would be shown up as the fakes that they are and decided not to risk discrediting themselves. So i guess they might have got something right.

So if psychics are all Charlotte-Anns then what does it say about the CIA that they spent $20 million on Stargate - and no, I don't mean thecrappy kiddy TV Sci-Fi programme. And why does Edinburgh Uni have a Parapsychology chair ?

Concetrate now cos I'm sending the answer to you. $20 million is a lot of Dime bars you know.

I have a message from John… Does the name John.. John Smith mean anything to anyone? He’s saying he loves you and ‘the big one is sleeping, but is about to wake’ Does that mean anything to anyone here?

What would happen if they could get a psychic, or two, to predict WMD in Iran?

Reader’s Digest fans everywhere would sanction war against Iran.

And Christians would be full of righteous indignation if the mainstream chastised the psychics, because it was that nice psychic who passed on that reassuring message from their dead relative a few years ago which confirmed to them that there is an afterlife...

You couldn't make it up, could you? And we pay for it!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the fact that the MoD has comissioned such a load of (crystal?) balls at the taxpayer's expense. I thought that we were living in the 21st century, with all kinds of sophisticated, hi-tech ways to spy on potential enemies and find out what they might be planning. Obviously not.

There's plenty of dead people in Iraq - perhaps the MoD can predict the future from their entrails. On second thoughts, stick to reading the tea-leaves - it's as much use as this rubbish, and at least you'll get a nice cuppa.

You can get a weird prize for being adored
You can join the "in crowd" for being a whore
Although you are lonely you wish for a fence
America takes drugs in psychic defense
You can say what you want but nobody's there
Have you got any money?
Are you anybody?

It does seem amusing having a bunch of squaddies trying to act as psychics. "Is it a gun Sarge ? Is it a beer ? Is it a naked woman ? Is it a gun ?" Read the MOD document and you see the name Ingo Swann and their CIA work quoted. This next is quoting Ingo about the CIA work, and then there is a Psychic Self Defence Workshop from the Psycademy - no good for me, I don't drink martini.

"The amount of money and personnel involved in the Soviet psychotronics clearly confirmed that they were serious about it and had already achieved breakthroughs which justified the increases in
expenditures and tightest security. American intelligence analysts were appalled and embarrassed that the Soviets (KGB and GRU), were involved in topics considered in the USA as speculative, controversial, and fringy. But they were alarmed at the prospect that the Soviets would "get ahead." And so the phrase 'the psychic warfare gap" came into existence. The intelligence community was well aware that "psychotronics" meant an "applied" something, something psychically aggressive with real applications, something threatening to the well-being and security of the American nation. In response to this, and with Congressional approval to do so, the intelligence community then involved itself with researching this threat -- the threat analysis of Soviet-applied psychotronics. It is, after all, the established and expected duty of the intelligence community to examine and research all threats to the security of the nation. This is to say that the intelligence community did not conduct psychic research and go out on a limb just for the hell of it. In fact, that community never did psychic research. What it did was to assess the threat of the Soviet efforts. ...Even most of the 1970s media concluded that the work was necessary, even if it was funny and ridiculous according to Western anti-psychic traditions. Several quite respectable sources have informed me that two major nations are making advances in psychoenergetics applications, one of which is remote viewing. It is also being alleged that a third smaller nation, with well known and advertised hatred of the American Way of Life, is also making progress.Initial research was carried out at the very prestigious Stanford Research Institute (SRI). Certain psychically-gifted individuals were able to describe distant locations, often with amazing accuracy. With this fact established, the military/intelligence community approved further funding. Research continued, but the main effort soon switched to development (applications), based on two key findings. First, remote viewing ability is latent in nearly all humans. Second, it is possible to teach ordinary people to perform remote viewing.

Groups of students recruited form the ranks of the funding client agencies were trained at SRI. Their mission was to gather data, using remote viewing, regarding targets of special interest to the client agencies. Usually, these were targets inside the Soviet Union that had resisted the standard intelligence gathering techniques. The 15% accuracy cited in recent public statements on behalf of the CIA is the baseline which ordinary non-gifted and untrained persons
often do achieve. This figure was identified very early in the SRI research phase. The minimum accuracy needed by the clients was 65%. In the later stages of the development (training) part of the effort, this accuracy level was achieved and often consistently exceeded. I now direct your attention to "successful remote viewing," and ask you to wonder if it can exist. Begin by considering psychics who successfully help the police. Add to that success some quite good remote viewing training. Then consider that what is a bit possible in natural psychics might be understood, developed, and then trained. Now assume that a "little-bit-psychic" can become a
"whole-lot-psychic" -- and you come up with the "eight martini result." What, then, is an "eight-martini" result? Well, this is an intelligence community in-house term for remote viewing data so good that it cracks everyone's realities. So they have to go out and drink eight
martinis to recover. Remoter viewing does have its amusing aspects, you
know."

Indeed.
