in the field

reporting from the field, literaly. perhaps four hundred people gathered in hull today for a rally and organic picnic against the proposed planting of GM potatoes. however, as the picnic began, seed potatoes were distributed and everyone headed into the field and started planting...

the hand full of police present watched on but did not intervene as the field was rendered usless for any scientific trial of potatoes. but it was never really about testing potatoes, it was a trial of public commitment to keeping this country GM free. there is no doubt that the public have demonstrated their strenght of will.

No need to exaggerate

Sorry to nitpick, but you're possibly getting a little bit over excited there! I did a bit of a headcount and I'd say 200 people is a far more accurate figure.

It was a fantastic action, and a great and empowering day for all involved. With people like those present today, prepared to get out there and do something, we will win this battle.

Well done everyone, and especially the organisers!!

Always a tricky one numbers. I'd put the figure at 250-300 at the hall and on the march but once at the field it looked very different. Certainly way more that the 150 quoted in the first report (which managed to place the band Seize The Day at the action despite them not attending at all) - but certainly not 400 either.
