Bolton patients "guinea pigs" for insecure NHS Care Records trial

Dave Page | 13.04.2007 21:39

Bolton residents needed! Patients in Bolton will soon be used as guinea pigs for the controversial NHS Care Records System [1]. The scheme which will ultimately see everyone's intimate health details online in an insecure system which destroys medical confidentiality. For more details, see  http://www.nhsconfidentiality.org/

Patients will not be able to opt out of having their demographic details on the database. The flawed "sealed envelope" system which supposedly allows patients to conceal sensitive information, will reduce rather than improve privacy, according to Ross Anderson, Professor of Security Engineering at the Cambridge University Computer Laboratory.

Manchester No2ID are supporting a Big Opt Out campaign in Bolton to raise awareness of and opposition to this violation of patient's rights and privacy. We are looking for people who live in or near Bolton who can work with us. If you think you can help, or want to be contacted about this issue in future, please e-mail  manchester@no2id.net
