Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (April 13) is up at the website
http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:59)
This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- N Korean money that was frozen in a Macau bank is being released, opening the way for IAEA inspectors to visit nuclear sites. The UN Environment program says that developed nations should assist poor nations that are suffering as a result of climate change. The US has filed a complaint with the WTO over copyright piracy- China responds.
From NETHERLANDS- The 2 explosions that killed dozens in Algeria are creating fear of a return to civil war, which devastated the country for decades- al-Quida claimed responsibility as it did for last week's attacks in Morocco. "War Child" is an NGO that campaigns against the use of children in wars- the Netherlands will sign a treaty banning child soldiers.
From CUBA- The International Red Cross says that the suffering of Iraqi civilians is worsening as the occupation continues, and that the US military surge is bringing no relief. Venezuela is moving forward with extraditing from Colombia the man who took over the presidency while Hugo Chavez was taken prisoner during the coup of 2002. Then a Viewpoint on international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who was just bailed out in the US where he only faces charges of immigration violations, protecting him from extradition to Venezuela and Cuba.
From RUSSIA- Hundreds of thousands in Iraq staged protests, calling for the removal of US troops. Russia will launch their 4th generation of nuclear submarines this weekend. Last week the US suggested that Russia join in the development of the missile defense system that the Polish and Czech governments are allowing to be placed on their territories- a commentary on why Russia and other European nations are opposed to this development.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am and Saturday at 11am(PST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)

And the Partytown streams are great and informative-
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

--Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
