Arctic Ice 50% as thick as 1960

Don Beck | 12.04.2007 18:36 | Ecology

A British submarine just back from a cruise under
the North Pole measured the ice. "They said there
is now evidence that the polar ice cap could
disappear in as little as 13 years if global warming
continues at its current pace."

"....things are happening more quickly than we had
expected," said British Antarctic Survey Director
Chris Rapley.

Now remember, the area of the ice cap is shrinking
at an accelerated rate, 27,000 sq. miles a year and
and it's on the rise. That means that there is way
less than 50% of the ice that was there in 1960.

At some point all of this melt water is expected to
shut down the thermalhaline ocean circulation,
and you know what happens then.?

Maybe you don't want to know.

Keep a positive attitude though, these facts have to correlate.

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

Kurt Vonnegut died yesterday. Yes, I thought he had died already too. He isn't in heaven though, he was clever enough to know that himself in advance. I don't see any religions rushing to beatify him - maybe we should ? Just to annoy him in the athiestic afterlife he expected and described beautifully. Or perhaps since he stuck it to every President he could.

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

Sorry. But...Kurt is worth remembering. He is even worth reading, apart from anything else -

You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!
