Manchester United Fans get a taste of (G8) Genoa

Lasts nights 1st leg of the quarter final of the Champions League between Roma and Manchester United was marred by violence between both sets of fans and between the Italian Police and the English fans. There are reports that the Police "reponse" was over the top.
The BBC reports that the home office is demanding an explanation, after reports of people being beaten with truncheons while they were on the ground.

The home office minister Ted Croaker wasn't too happy with what went down.
Mr Coaker said: "The scenes that we saw on our television screens were extremely concerning."

Funny that he should say that because I remember how Mr Bliar complimented the Italian
Police for their good work at the anti G8 demo at Genoa.
I was on my wasy home in a state of shock after seeing hundreds of innocent people being beaten up by Italian Police. The Diaz school night mare was yet to happen.

What happened last night is completely normal in Italy, at any kind of public event when there is a
confrontation between the police and groups of people, demonstrators or football fans alike.
If the people provoke the police and or don't follow their often very confusing orders then the police charge as soon as the order to (caricare?) is given they beat anything that comes in to their range.
We are not talking about a little tap on the arm to make you move along, they smash you on the head or in the face, the injuries are pretty nasty and with the victim's face unrecognizable
completely covered in bllod.
Some of the riot cops known as "Celerini" only are trained to hide behind a shield and whack people with a long club, thats all they can do, some of them don't like the regulation issue truncheons and have special customized weapons made.
The United will have found out last night that keeping away from the Hooligan Element who were
exchanging missiles with the Romans, by sitting down quietly watching the match made absolutely no difference at all. When the order goes out the Italian cops don't go necessarily go after the hooligans they just smash the first person they find in front of them.

That is exactly what happened at Genoa as the Italian police literally attacked a sold mass of
peace full demonstrators time and again. Cut the Demonstration into at leasts three parts and spent most of the afternoon terrorizing ordinary Italians.
It's a pity that the worlds media were not on hand to record the horrific scenes from Genoa.
How can you justify hitting an unarmed person with a huge club, it's totally outrageous, the Home office doesn't seem to be too put out about what happened to Her majesties Subjects
while they slept.

So nothing changes.
