Take Action Against Illegal Tree Felling in Liverpool!

concerned person | 22.03.2007 20:05 | Ecology | Liverpool

Langtree McLean are currently cutting their way through trees at the former Garden Festival site in Liverpool, even though they don't have planning permission yet and they don't own the site yet! If they get their way, the site will be almost completely clear-felled!

They are destroying semi-mature trees, including oaks, from the original plantings for the Garden Festival in the early 1980s. The tree-felling is also devastating for the birdlife established on the site, as birds commence their breeding activities at this time of year.

At a meeting this Sunday 1st April, concerned people will be able to discuss resistance strategies. Meet 2pm at the Old Police Station on Lark Lane. Visit  http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=337249&Y=387623&A=Y&Z=1 for directions.

I can't make this Sunday meeting but would like to particpate in resistance actions. Would you post updates about what's being organised and when? Or email interested participants?

injunction?

If the company doing the tree felling does not own or rent the site and has no planning permission, the fastest way to stop them might be to go the legal route and apply for an injunction in the courts. The possible problem with that might be the cost. But this could be explored to see if it is affordable, or if legal aid might be available to a concerned individual who applied for an injunction. I can't say I have any direct experience of trying this myself, but maybe there are more experienced environmental campaigners who do?
