On August 20, 2003, Chandra Prakash Gajurel, known to millions of people in Nepal and South Asia as Comrade Gaurav, was arrested by Indian authorities as he attempted to travel to Europe to support the battle against imperialist intervention in his country.

International pressure recently forced the government of India to release Comrade Gaurav after holding him in prison for three years. Comrade Gaurav is a member of the Political Bureau and Head of International Affairs of the CP-Nepal.

In this interview, recorded on March 14, he discusses an alliance of Nepalese political parties recently formed to wage struggle in the electoral arena to challenge the hegemony of the current ruling monarchy.

He also reviews the state of the people's war, now in its tenth year in Nepal. It has been characterized by the US government as “terrorist,” but even corporate media such as the BBC, France's Le Monde, the New York Times and India Today, have acknowledged that millions of Nepalese have rallied to the side of the popular insurgency in Nepal.
