Troops Out of Iraq! 17 March.

STWmongers | 13.03.2007 23:19 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Liverpool | Sheffield

Mark four years of war, invasion and occupation of Iraq this Saturday 17 March,
12 - 3pm Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester

Stop The Warmongers in Manchester are this Saturday joining the International protests against the war and occupation of Iraq.
Four years ago on 20 March the Labour government joined with the US in their attack on Iraq, an imperialist war launched to gain control of Iraq's oil resources as part of their wider imperialist aim to gain control of the oil resources of all of the Middle East and Central Asia. The result has been death and destruction for the people of Iraq, the Lancet estimates that the occupation has resulted in the death of over 650,000 Iraqi's.
The Iraqi people are resisting the occupation in many ways, military attacks against the occupying forces reached 185 a day in December of 2006.
Join in the event in Piccadilly Gardens, bring flags, banners, drums, bring yourselves! There will be an open mic for all organisations and individuals supporting the event.

The situation in Iraq is very very complex. I agree that describing Sunni carbombers or Al Qaeda in Iraq as "resistence" is not very clever. But, the vast majority of Iraqis want the occupation to end and pulling out the troops will go a long way to reigning in the people who are making a virtue out of attacking troops and people working for them.

Iraq is unwinnable since the general popullation don't want the victors in their country. The current situation is self-perpuating.

Perhaps, if the "Coalition" handn't broken international law by bombing the civillian infrastructure into the Stone Age to start with and everyday people were now better off than they were under the seige (Oil for Food Programme) rather than worse, the situation would be different.

Troops out now!
