For the Iraqi people war and occupation has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, relentless insecurity and crippling poverty. But for foreign oil companies the desperate situation in Iraq is a chance to take control of Iraq’s oil and make massive profits at the expense of its people.

A new oil law now being written could give companies such as BP, Shell and Exxon contracts to extract Iraqi oil for a generation. Big Oil and the US/UK governments have helped craft this new legislation behind closed doors, while ordinary Iraqis have had no say.

Join us to:
- find out more about the new law, the companies involved, and the US and UK Governments' roles in this smash and grab law
- make plans and take action to stop British companies from joining the race to carve up Iraq’s oil wealth.

For more information about the campaign visit www.HandsOffIraqiOil.org.

Hands Off Iraqi Oil is an international coaltion campaign launched by: Corporatewatch UK, Iraq Occupation Focus, Jubilee Iraq, Voices, PLATFORM, War on Want and Naftana - UK Support Committee for the Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions and Un Ponte Per (Italy) and Oil Change International (USA)

Iraqi oil

I'm very confused on this, and I really don't know any thing about oil, except that the oil companies are billionaires.

Iraq is anything but stable.
The Iraqis can't agree among themselves -- Suunis, Shiites, Kurds.
So, are Iraqis capable of managing their own oil -- by that I mean, do they have the means to keep the equipment needed updated and in repair....can they manage the money coming from it.....

Would not the foreign companies have to pay the Iraqi government for the oil?

What is it that the foreign companies would do exactly?

I myself believe that oil belongs to the people of the land and the profits should be shared by all.

I'm american, and believe our own oil should be the American people and not the oil companies.
