john reid's bile

illegal immigration or capital, what should we be afraid of?

i saw on the news today john reid unveiling the governments new policy for cracking down on illegal immigrants, and the language he used was full of the most degrading, de-humanizing bile, which spoke of an us and them mentality which has the effect of criminalizing the illegal immigrant and turning them into a rogue element which needs to be eradicated. What happened to the humane solidarity which (yes partially) guided the governments migration policy in a large part of the 20th century? It seems to me that policy has degraded to sheer racism, which shifts the economic insecurity which we all face today to being a problem of illegal immigration. In his talk for example he basically stated that illegal immigration was the reason for low wages, which of course in people's minds leads to the popular idea that migrants are the sole reason for our loss of jobs. In my opinion however this is bollocks, economic insecurity brought on by globalisation is not inevitable, there are definite economic interests out there who like things this way and the migrants arn't to blame, if anything we should be joining in with them in our struggles, seeing them as part of the same situation as us. The nationalist response however is something which is very strong, and unless alternative views of migrants are formed, then there will be a harsh future for them, and eventually us...
