Sheffield Cuba Solidarity Campaign, and Venezuela Information Centre- Sheffield, invite your participation in a day school on Latin America, on Saturday, March 17 at Sheffield's Quaker Meeting house. The title of the event is 'A continent awakes' and is subtitled 'Neoliberal Devastation and the Rise of the Axis of Hope'. 'Axis of hope' refers to the alliance of Cuba, Venezuela and Bolivia, whose 'Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas' represents the most direct challenge to imperialist domination of the subcontinent since Nicaragua's Sandinista revolution of the 1980's. There will be workshops on Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Nicaragua and Brazil. Speakers have been invited from the Cuban and Venezuelan embassies, from the leaderships of national solidarity campaigns and academics working in solidarity with popular struggles in Latin america. We've set up a web site to promote the event (www.s-la.net/). There you'll see the latest programme and also a selection of articles and documents on the main dayschool themes. We expect a capacity crowd, so register in advance to ensure your participation. The cost is £3 unwaged/£5 waged (£5/£7 on day).
