The hole off the Cape Verde Islands is described by scientists as a massive wound in the Earth that is not healing it's self.Scientists said the Earth's crust seems to be completly missing.Usually when this happens the mantle rise's and fills in the hole. But this time things seem to have gone completly wrong.Dr McLeod on the ocean research vessel RRS James Cook said it "was an open wound on the surface of the Earth".Were normaly the oceanic crust should be 34 to 5 miles thick. He added it was rupture were one side was pulling away from the other. The team will set sail on Monday to investigat it.The whole thing can be followed online via the British Geological Survey.
