Chief Constable wants power to force witness evidence.

Merseyside chief constable Bernard Hogan Howe is calling for the power to force witness's to testfy in court. He also called for the eviction of family's who had a member convicted of a gun crime or for assisting their escape from conviction. These calls follow on from the spate of gangland shootings in Merseyside in the last six months. The shooting of Liam Smith in August 2006 provoked a large responce on Indymedia from concerned residents of the Norrisgreen area of Liverpool with some residents calling for an MI6 spy on them policy. The shooting of Michael Mikey Wright in a Kentucky chicken bar at a time when a lot of children used it seems to have galvanised a get tuff approach. In the weeks following regular road blocks were set up at random places all over the city resulting in car impounds, drugs and guns. And most of the teen gangs on very restrictive asbo's.Residents in Norrisgreen say it has gone very quiet now.
