Paintballzones Destroying Woodland

Treehugger | 15.02.2007 15:56

Overgrown kids fireing paint at each other is destroying flaura and fauna in our woodland

One paintball I visited called the paintballzone.co.uk had over 100 old cable reels with old telegraph poles on them to look like artillary.Every tree was covered in paint and leafless.Large trenches had been dug everywere. And uncountable numbers of tyres ranging from cars to JCB were everywere.Ramshackle villages built of plywood treated with chemicals to stop rot.But worst of all it had attracted the 4 wheel drive mob.As it got dark 12 landrovers turned up and drove across cultivated fields into the paintball. They tore around in there untill the early hours of the morning.Knocking trees down and tearing up the terrain. The woods looked just like the aftermath of a battlefield.

Guerilla forestry?

Hi Treehugger,

Stop hugging and start planting -

Maclura Pomifera would be a very good tree to plant in this situation. It makes very good timber for bows, is used making guitars, and offcuts are very good fuel. As a hedge it is horse and bull proof, as well as man proof. It will grow in the UK. Wont half discourage pneumatically tyred vehicles!

Sequoia Sempervirens would be a good regenerator, when cut down it comes up with new shoots from the stump. Cuttings are likely to root.if not too dry. some pics at  http://www.redwoodworld.co.uk/picturepages/leighton.htm

It is possible that the paintballzone.co.uk owners would like to have the Registration numbers of the Land Rovers as it sounds as though they turned up after closing time without paying the fee. There might even be a reward...
