Contempt of Court

dp | 06.02.2007 16:27 | Repression

All inquests into UK deaths in Iraq are held in Oxford. Most of them have been delayed for unreasonable amounts of time. Many of them have called for US service personnel to be witnesses, but the US has always refused this. Now the coroner who demanded that video footage of one 'friendly fire' incident has been sacked.

The video footage of US pilots bombing of clearly marked British vehicles in Iraq, killing Matty Hull and injuring many of his comrades, was given to the coroner with the proviso that it was never shown. The MoD had denied this footage had ever existed for over a year despite them having possesion of it from the start. The coroner, Andrew Walker, was reported to be visibly furious that the family were to be denied seeing the footage of his murder. This created a media backlash that resulted in the footage being released not to the court, but to the Sun.

"As she left court, Mandy Hull nodded towards the coroner. 'He's the only man who has tried to help us. The British government and the Americans have only let us down,' she said."

Is there any clearer indication needed that we are no longer a soveriegn state with an independent judiciary ? Independence from America won't be won by the establishment, but by ordinary people prepared to fight for their own rights.
