tree camp to stop pipeline directions thereto....

The protest camp is up in the trees in ancient woodland 4 miles west of Brecon on the A40 close to Bettws Penpont church. It is located at Ordnance Survey national grid reference SN9728728525.

The ancient woodland is scheduled for decimation by National Grid to clear a path for the 48" high pressure gas pipeline. The protesters aim to stop the destruction of yet more ancient woodland by National Grid and it's contractors.

There are over 15 people on site at the moment and they are requesting any donations. Please send supplies of all sorts, food, water, warm clothes and bedding, camping and cooking gear, wood, rope, nails, etc etc etc. They would also like any people interested to join them and show solidarity in this battle to save our environment.

wood please

29.01.2007 11:00

there has been a request for wood to be donated to the tree camp
all other useful stuff is welcome too of course, especially people.

anyone unable to get down there is urged to do banner drops of poster making and outting up in there local areas
this is a national (international issue really) issue as it concerns middle eastern gas being brought into Britain to be stockplied, 80% of which (or more) will be exported to Europe at a mark up.
so we steal the fossil fuels, then we sell them on..... sneaky in't it.
don't believe the crap they say about " your grandmother needs to have reliable heating at the flick of a switch", my grandmother died in an explosion caused by a faulty gas valve on her boiler!
there are better and cheaper and safer ways of heating a home without having to resort to theft, ecological destruction and the endangerment of tens of thousands who live within yards of this timebomb pipeline.
In the USA they cannot build such a pipeline within miles of populated areas as it is deemed too risky, (the explosive force of a rupture is equivalent to a Hiroshima bomb).
When I asked one national grid goon about why this LNG pipeline is being built within metres (5-10 metres at times) of homes, schools, playing fields etc., through landslip zones (e.g. trebanos) and even an earthquake zone (the south wales coal field- honeycombed with un-charted collapsing mines- the only earthquake zone in Britain).... the reply was.... "well you see, we don't have the space they've got in America".
there is every chance of stopping this project from going through, all we need to do is shout loud enough.
the level of corruption, is immense, you simply don't take risks with something like this, it's not a shopping centre.... shopping centres don't explode like nuclear bombs. These money hungry cowboys are gambling with peoples lives.
what's more the people working on constructing this are a B team of civil engineers and geological surveyors.... all the respected authorities have refused to have anything to do with it, as it is too dangerous.
on a positive note, a handful of already super rich tycoons, such as David Mercer, stand to get even richer, from the short-term gain involved from this display of contempt for law and democracy. So hopefully they will have nice early retirements, sailing about in their shiney new yachts.
