Video: 24/01/07 - Shell blockades London

Oscar Beard | 27.01.2007 17:40 | Rossport Solidarity | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Social Struggles | London | World

Video of an evening of Shell garage blockades in London.

The blockades in Highbury and Islington were in support of the protestors fighting the Shell Corporation in County Mayo, North West Ireland.

Unfortunately the first attempt at a blockade was met with vicious aggression, not by the police, but by locals, which drew the question - should someone this unstable, aggressive and violent really be behind the wheel of a weapon of mass destruction, namely a car?

The protestors in County Mayo have been subject to violent attacks by Garda police drafted in from Dublin, who have the reputation of being one of the most violent police forces in Ireland. There have also been and many accusations of officers drunk on the job.

The protest has also been the brunt of many accusations in the Irish press, firstly that outside agitators were stirring up the protest, more recently they have been accused of collaborating with the IRA.

This old hack is now investigating the full story on the Shell Corrib gas pipeline and terminal and I am already starting to dig the dirt on this entire story.

Watch this space for more as it proceeds.

Anti-Shell protests

06.02.2007 00:10

Anti-Shell protests and the Wildlife Photographer of the Year event made the BBC news (Radio 4), and a protestor was interviewed on LBC (I think), but I heard no reference to this...
