Bombing of Somalia

Matt | 12.01.2007 16:53 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | South Coast

The USA has been bombing Somalia for days following an invasion by their Ethiopian allies. Hundreds of innocents have been killed.

The Islamic Courts that ruled most of the country have been defeated and Somalia has already been brought back to the chaos that the country had suffered for 16 years until the Islamic Courts brought peace to the capital.

On Christmas eve, whilst the western world was distracted by festivities, the USA persuaded (and paid) Ethiopia to invade in an effort to score a victory in their bogus 'War on Terror'.

Saying that they wanted to spare civilian lives, the Islamic Courts fled Mogadishu without a fight. Since then they have been pursued by the Ethiopian army and air force, and the USA began bombing using massive AC-130 planes and helicopter gunships. Entire villages have been destroyed and the civilian death toll is now in the hundreds, if not the thousands.

WE NEED TO ACT! Just as the War on Terror is global, our resistance to the war must also be global. Somalis are being killed to feed the US bloodlust just as the Iraqis, Afghans, Lebanese and Palestinians have. Yet there seems to have been no outrage even amongst the anti-war/activist community. Please, if anyone is doing anything to support the Somalis and resist the US war machine in africa, please let us know. Africa is too important to be left to the Live8 idiots.

There is a vigil planned for Saturday the 20th of January in Churchill Square, Brighton.
If anyone would like to know more, to help or to let us know of what they are doing (especially in the Somali community) please let us know.
