David Cameron backing for UAF

UAF published supporters list | 12.01.2007 15:00 | Anti-racism

David Cameron is listed among a group of prominent politicians and personalities claimed by Unite against Fascism as supporters as they demonstrate today outside the English National Ballet calling for the sacking of principal dancer Simone Clarke.

The UAF published supporters list is headed by Ken Livingstone whose race adviser Lee Jasper also chairman of the National Assembly Against Racism initiated the witch-hunt against the ballerina in The Guardian with the words “I think she should be sacked”.

It is not known how many of these prominent individuals will make up the 100 or so demonstrators expected to support the call of Weyman Bennett , the Socialist Workers' Party Joint Secretary of UAF to join in the demonstration.

There are now increasing calls for members of the BNP to be sacked from their jobs. This view has been given support by Trevor Phillips former chair of the Commission for Racial Equality.

The UAF supporters list currently contains over 50 MPs, nine MEPs, fifteen trade union leaders including TUC general secretary Brendan Barber, human rights lawyer Louise Christian and even Institute of Employment Rights director Carolyn Jones.

Yet again!!!

Yet again, another gift to the BNP!
I thought after the Leeds trial fiasco, people might just start to learn, and approach this problem at a different angle but no, the fucking UAF go and put their idiotic size ten boots into it yet again and hand the BNP a world-wide platform.

It has even made her out to be the victim and the BNP all nice and cuddly as she poses in her ballerina get-up! What a joke. Griffin must be laughing his arse off.
I am utterly infuriated.

THIS IS A UAF-BASHING NAZI TROLL ARTICLE - BEWARE

12.01.2007 18:14

This comment is written by a Nazi troll.

Hence the coded words "Witch Hunt" used to describe the lawful and peaceful protest against the Ballet Nazi protest.

Beware boys 'n' girls. This is the classic UAF-bashing Nazi Troll article, as the losers from Stormponce and VNN troll on Indymedia, pretending to be disillusioned anti-fascists.

Their cover is blown.

UAF and ADL

14.01.2007 06:30

I would be wary of UAF's claim to be genuinely anti-fascist. It is a supporter of the notoriously rabid Zionist organisation the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, "...one of the ugliest, most powerful pressure groups in the U.S...Its primary commitment is to use any technique, however dishonest and disgraceful, in order to defame and silence and destroy anybody who dares to criticize the Holy State ('Israel')." --Noam Chomsky.

The fact remains...

15.01.2007 01:12

The fact remains that the Guardian and the UAF have handed the BNP another world-wide media gift; and the fash are grinning from ear to ear because of it!

The little UAF demo outside and the agitation inside during the performance served no purpose whatsoever except to soften people’s minds towards the BNP, and harden them against anti-fascists; including her colleagues and peers.
The only way to defeat them is to starve them of publicity, and suffocate their attempts of gaining national notoriety and household-name political position which will in turn bankrupt them financially and break them; they run their affairs on a shoestring as it is!

The egos of the UAF astound me, just what are they hoping to achieve by carrying on like this. They are a complete joke.
Answers on a postcard please.

Ps I am ‘troll aware’ so don’t bother posting if you are.

Evidence?

15.01.2007 01:24

I'd be really interested to see some evidence to link UAF/SWP and the ADL...

I'm not sure if I'd be surprised or disgusted - probably more of the latter I suspect.

If anyone has any provable evidence, please post it - personally I think ADL are absolutely horrendous beyond all belief, and if anyone over here is linked to them in any way, they want their heads checking.

Protest puts pressure on the BNP ballerina

Protest puts pressure on the BNP ballerina Simone Clarke

by Anindya Bhattacharyya

Up to 100 protesters demonstrated outside the London Coliseum theatre this lunchtime against the first performance by Simone Clarke, principal dancer at the English National Ballet (ENB), since she was revealed as a card-carrying member of the fascist British National Party (BNP).

The protest, organised by Unite Against Fascism, was lively with constant chanting against the BNP. Demonstrators carried placards reading “Ballet not bigotry” and “No to fascism and racism at the ballet”. The demo also attracted significant interest from the mainstream media.

Clarke’s membership of the BNP was revealed in the Guardian newspaper over Christmas. She responded by giving a lengthy and unrepentant interview with the Mail on Sunday where she showered praise on the BNP’s anti-immigration agenda.

The actual performance of Giselle was disrupted by protesters from Love Music Hate Racism shortly after Clarke made her entrance on stage. They stood up and shouted that her presence was a disgrace, that there should be no racism in the arts, and that the BNP was a fascist organisation.

A group of a dozen or so Nazis were also at the performance, huddled around Richard Barnbrook, the BNP’s mayoral candidate and lead councillor in Barking & Dagenham. They loudly applauded and cheered when Clarke made her entrance.

Emma Blackwood, a visual artist and musician from west London, was on the Unite protest outside. She highlighted the BNP’s bigoted attitudes towards lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.

“Simone Clarke represents a fascist organisation. That seems to me to be incongruent with the arts world, which involves lots of LGBT people,” she told Socialist Worker.

“Clarke’s allegiance to the BNP must be distressing for her colleagues as well as for artists in general. She’s being employed by a publicly funded organisation, so she should not be publicly aligning herself with a fascist political party.”

Renowned classical pianist Ian Pace was also on the Unite protest. “It is incompatible for Clarke to be an active BNP member – going to meetings and using her prominence to promote the organisation – while also being in a multicultural state funded arts organisation,” he said.

“If she were to leave the BNP, then fine. But if not, she cannot remain part of a company with an extremely diverse group of dancers, many of whom are immigrants – she has to go.

“I also think she should say what she thinks about the politics of the BNP – which include Holocaust denial, racism and criminal violence.”

According to an article in today’s Independent newspaper, Clarke’s fascist sympathies have attracted anger from colleagues and workers at the ENB.

It reports “growing frustration among the troupe’s 150 dancers and backstage staff that Clarke has not been publicly challenged about her views when nine out her ten fellow principal dancers are immigrants”.

Both the Musicians’ Union and the Bectu theatre workers’ union have spoken out against Clarke and condemned the BNP. The actors’ union Equity, in contrast, has failed to comment.

Gerry Morrissey, Bectu’s assistant general secretary, said, “Simone Clarke earns her living in the subsidised arts and with this goes certain responsibilities, with which she has failed to comply. She has brought our industry into disrepute.”

Open you eyes

15.01.2007 14:43

When they shouted at Clarke, the audience shout 'shame' and 'shut up' and other remarks back at the anti's before they were bundled outside, and as I understand support for her on the night from the paying punters as well as from within her own circle hardened as a result of it; and she had a standing ovation at the end (don't take my word for it then, investigate yourself independently!)

The fact that she has a 'non-Aryan' partner has also turned people to thinking that butter wouldn't melt in her mouth! What a joke. Griffin has played a clever publicity trap here, and everyone has walked right into it on cue!

Forget the 'put on a brave face, we fucked up' UAF, and the usual spin of the SWP web-site; come on, look at it with your own eyes! What was the net result of all of this?
Something needs to happen that will not feed the fash the publicity it so desperately craves.

ps Heads up,I now expect UAF members to accuse me of being a troll.
Well bollocks, because we all know the truth don't we.

UAF cock-up

15.01.2007 15:16

There seems to be a knee jeck reaction from UAF to every story involving the fash, in this case the story should have been allowed to die.

James, get up from your armchair.

15.01.2007 15:36

I would like to ask James a hypothetical question.

What if tomorrow a well known football player pronouced his full support for the BNP.

I would spectulate that james would just ignore it and hope it would just go away. James then would go into double drive in denouncing any anti-nazi attempting to make a stand.

Unfortunately the BNP are likely to gain growing support in future and it is likely that high profile celeberaties are going to publicly support the BNP, anti nazis need to have a response to this.

I think the strategy of UAF was right on this one, OK there wasn't masses of anti-nazis and they did not stop the performance, but the UAF did set a presendent , next time UAF opposition could be stronger, historically UAF and the Anti Nazi League have managed to mobilise thousands of people against the nazis and if required could do the same again.

The UAF will need to learn from this and be much more prepared for the next time a nazi decides to come out of the closet.

Wake up to the 21 century!

15.01.2007 17:33

Keep dreaming Red Letter, we live in very different times now my friend.
We need to move with the times or be left wondering what went wrong after the window to stop them is closed.
Nostalgia will not win the day, and the harsh but true fact is the UAF is painfully ineffective, and its only NuLab and Jasper & Co. slinging money at it that is keeping it staggering along.
This is not the way forward.
Don't believe the bollocks, the BNP's membership is going through the roof as is their support on the street, uncomfortable but true. As I’ve already said, they must be suffocated and starved out at this time, not fed!
