THIS EVENING (Wed 10th Jan), VIGIL FOR British resident - JAMIL EL-BANNA - is one of 9 British residents held in Guantanamo.
On the eve of the 5th Anniversary of the Opening of Guantánamo Bay
6pm, Richmond Terrace SW1 (opposite Downing Street)
TOMORROW, in Birmingham, demo outside HIATTS, supplier of Suppliers of handcuffs, shackles and chains - for African slaves in the 19th century to the prisoners in Guantanamo Bay in the 21st. BALTIMORE RD, 1.30pm.

GUANTANAMO: 5 YEARS ON

On 11 January 2007 the US prison camp at Guantanamo Bay will have been in
operation for five years. Over 750 people have been subjected to arbitrary and
indefinite imprisonment and torture and none have been released as a result of the
legal process. Of those who have been released, none have subsequently been
charged.

The National Guantanamo Coalition will be marking this day with two events.

1)London
:: VIGIL FOR JAMIL EL-BANNA ::

On the eve of the 5th Anniversary of the Opening of Guantánamo Bay
Wednesday 10th January, 6pm

Richmond Terrace SW1 (opposite Downing Street)

Jamil el-Banna is a British resident currently held in Guantánamo Bay without
charge or trial. He has a wife in the UK and British born children, one of whom
has never met her Father. Despite a recent EU report showing that the UK
Government were complicit in his extraordinary rendition to the camp, they refuse
to make representations on his behalf.
Jamil el-Banna is one of 9 British residents held in Guantanamo, without charge,
trial or hope.
For Mr AlBanna and Bisher Al-Rawi, there are serious allegations that MI5 have misinformed the CIA in detaining these men when on a business trip to the Gambia; MI5 had been using them as information sources prior to their trip.

Jan 11th will be the 5th anniversary of Guantánamo opening and we will mark the occasion with a peaceful candlelit vigil opposite Downing Street.

Please come and join us at 6pm for 6:30 start (finish 7:30pm) on Wednesday 10th January. Wrap up warm: candles and banners will be provided.

Guantánamo Bay is an international outrage and a serious affront to human rights
law. Help us send a message to the Government that their refusal to assist or
represent British residents held in the camp without charge is totally
unacceptable.

The Vigil is organised by Sarah Teather MP with Amnesty and the London Guantanamo Campaign.
