Gentle acclimatization

This may not be too far from the intention actually. Especially as we are now being told in the news reports (no doubt informed by some Home Office sponsored - read corrupted - study) that CCTV brings down crime. This of course flies directly in the face of other reports and studies that show that CCTV does *not* impact crime, except to displace it to other areas. Better street lighting, more active and civilian-friendly town centres (rather than sink-holes for 20-somethings to get motherlessly pissed in), and a more accessible police service (not force, but service!) are the three main factors most closely associated with decreases in street and acquisitive crimes.

The Big Brother house is the idealised model, the proto-type for more intrusive forms of CCTV. Most of us in the UK don't even see the plethora of CCTV cameras all over the place. I keep getting reminded of that old phrase: drop a frog in boiling water and it jumps out. Put a frog in cold water and gradually bring the pot up to boil, the frog will get boiled alive. We are being boiled alive with respect to our liberties and rights. The government does not give us our rights and our freedoms, and hence the government is not in a position to take them away, except wherever we let them. And telling us crap that crime is coming down, CCTV is good for our safety, terrorism is getting worse, etc., just simply serves as a device with which the government seeks to weaken us, and to convince us that we need their security measures and don't need our freedoms. Bollocks to Blair and Reid - friggin' fascists that they are. The corporate nation state - all united under the Brand Name.
