New London Food Not Bombs Group Needs Help

SAC | 02.01.2007 17:34 | London

After Christmas, a new food not bombs group will be started in London, which is looking for more people to be involved in the project.

Currently, there are around 7 or 8 of us involved in the project, and we are hoping to give out free, vegan food around the King's Cross area, probably on Saturday afternoons (though these details will be up for discussion once more people become involved). We have large cooking facilities available close to Kings' Cross, but we will need help with preparing food as well as with skipping and acquiring food during the week before the serving. We are a friendly, welcoming group, working on horizontal principles and using consensus decision making, attempting to encourage enviromental sustainability, mutual aid and self-determination, animal liberation and community self-organisation in the struggle for a better world.

We really need more people to get involved, so if anyone is interested please email  londonfnb@riseup.net We will plan to meet every week at the beginning of the week to discuss plans for each weeks servings, and details of the first weekly meeting will be sent out soon via the email list.

Love and solidarity,

SAC

Hi, great to hear of a London Food Not Bombs, I have been involved with the Birmingham collective for over a year now and it has been am amazing experience and fun too. We serve every other week in the city center on a Saturday, the response has been good with the food, info stall and sometimes live music and a sound system. Many local small shops have donated food to us and we have an allotment to grow stuff. I wish you luck with your group. Have fun.

Hey, Sorry, I put the wrong email on here. The correct one is  londonfnb@lists.riseup.net Thanks for the advice about locations, and for the words of support, hopefully we can come together and discuss where the best place to serve is and other details. Email and we will arrange a meeting.

Thanks, and sorry again about the wrong mail address,

Kings X

I hear what you are saying riot act, but I think there should be a Food Not Bombs in central London. There' s already one that serves on Sundays in Dalston, so aside from serving in a differnt place, such a central location makes it harder to ignore the problems and solutions that FNB highlights.

I've been involved in NY for years, and this has always been a point of discussion. Perhaps Kings X isn't the right place, but Hackney might not be the best option either.
