Ruben and Ignasi facing trial on January 11th 2007 - We urgently ask for international solidarity. This trial is a direct attack on the anarchist movement in Barcelona, in the form of a repressive measure against two individuals who have been involved in supporting prisoners and fighting against the State.
The beginning of 2007 will bring us unexpected news: Ruben and Ignasi are
scheduled to face trial on January 11th. The Public prosecutor's asking for 7
1/2 years of imprisonment for both of them, and a fine of 27000 euros€.
They were arrested February 9th 2006 being accused of burning a 'Caixa de
Sabadell' cash point and putting an incendiary device in CIRE (Centre
d'iniciatives per la reinserció- a semi-public semi-private
organisation/enterprise who "gives work to prisoners"). Ignasi spent two
months in prison, and Ruben five until they were released on bail until
the trial.
This trial isn't going to judge any concrete crime or offence, but it will
try to directly attack the anarchist and anti-repressive movement in
Barcelona, as straightly expressed by the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan
police force) during the interrogations... "We don't care what we're
accusing you, what we care about is the anarchist struggle in Barcelona",
referring more specifically to an action that happened in 2005 in
solidarity with the italian anarchists (A bomb against the Italian Cultural Institute).
It becomes clear that with all this repressive action that started on
February 9th their goal was to end up with a model punishment so that the
whole movement becomes intimidated. We have to assume that not letting
ourselves fall into their game but strongly reacting and getting a massive
presence in the streets.
We shouldn't leave our comrades alone facing this trial, we have to assume
the political nature of it, we have to prove we're lots of people that
support them, that we feel attacked and with the need to defend ourselves
from that repression.
Some pickets are planned in Barcelona on december 28th, 29th, january 4th
and 11th.
Please organise against Spanish interests, embassies, cultural institutes in solidarity with the anarchist movement under attack in Spain.
