55 mile walk from Brighton to London ends in SOCPA showdown.

3 Brighton activists marched the 55 miles for 3 days from Brighton to Whitehall to deliver letters to Downing Street and postcards to the foreign Office demanding the release of Brighton resident Omar Deghayes from Guantanamo Bay.

The march ended outside Downing Street where the police on the gates refused to take the letters from the walkers despite their long march. The twenty or so people who had joined the marchers for the last leg of their journey carrying banners and many wearing orange suits then started a spontaneous and very angry demonstration shouting "take our letters", "this is not democracy", etc. The police stood by passively and totally unwilling to enforce the SOCPA legislation that they have used against many; usually while the BBC television* cameras are not there.

Video footage and more detailed reports and follow-ups will be posted soon...

* Not that the BBC showed the events described on their report of the events.
